What we do:
Do you call it a Tree FORT or a Tree HOUSE?
I've always dreamt of someday having an art studio in a tree fort/house. Hence the name FortHouse Studios. Treehouses SCREAM creativity to me, and it is hard not to be swept away by their charm at any age. Rosshirt believes that your environment plays a huge role in creative thinking. This way, when it was time to work or host a client for a meeting, it will be easier to get into the right mindset.
Joe Rosshirt graduated from the Maine College of Art with a BFA in Illustration and is the founder of FortHouse Studios located in Portland, Maine, focusing on children’s media. As an illustrator, Rosshirt pursues a daily mission to 'Make Happy Happen'.
Rosshirt began his Illustration career in 2009, while attending MECA, moonlighting to develop his first iOS game Super Dust Bunny. Upon graduating, Rosshirt freelanced for many local businesses in Maine including Sea Bags, Woodard & Curran, MEMIC Insurance, Maine Magazine, Mercy Hospital, The Cromwell Center for Disability Awareness, and Stonewall Kitchen. Joe has also freelanced as an Art Director for the VIA Agency supporting clients such as Asurion, T. Rowe Price, Klondike, Popsicle, Golden Corral, Verizon, and Home Depot.
After completing his first picture book in 2015, Burgles by Matt Steuer, Joe is excited to continue his focus on children’s publishing and pursue multimedia storytelling techniques.
Joe is also the owner of iDoodleLive and currently an Adjunct Professor at the Maine College of Art.
